​Over the decades, the West Bengal (India) -Bangladesh border has become a hotspot for cross-border illegal trade, human migration, and smuggling. In response, the Border Security Force (BSF) has resorted to lethal weapons, flouting treaties with Bangladesh that prohibit their use against civilians.

 

This shared culture and heritage now sows confusion among Indian security personnel, who turn their weapons on their own people, killing hundreds and maiming thousands in their homeland. No human rights group has adequately condemned these extrajudicial killings and torture, allowing impunity to persist amid ongoing suffering. No one is spared: children, women, the elderly, and youth alike face violence, with justice offering only fleeting relief.
